The Epsom and Ewell Group enjoys many walks in the Surrey countryside, and we also do longer walks in stages. In 2002-2003 several members of the Group followed the Thames Path from the Barrier to the source. Here we see the party posing by the Father Thames Monument at Lechlade. (Photo: D Belluco)

The 2003 Group Holiday was based at Napier University, Edinburgh, where several members of the Group enjoyed a week's excellent walking in and around Edinburgh. Here the party is shown outside the Flotterstone Inn at the foot of the Pentland Hills. (Photo: J Munro)

Well-behaved dogs, kept under control, are generally welcome on most of our walks - but please check the details of the particular walk in the programme for occasional "no dogs" requests. (Photo: K Allerman)

In 2006 the Group stayed at Bangor University and enjoyed a week of walking and some sightseeing. Here is the Group at the picturesque Aber Falls.

Dawn, May Day 2006. The Epsom and Ewell Group at the top of St Martha's Hill near Guildford, having gone out early to hear the dawn chorus and watch the sunrise. It turned out to be a wet day - but we aim to try again next year! (Photo: A Moore)

Dawn, May Day 2007. As planned we did it again - this time from Box Hill, where four groups of Morris dancers were also performing. This photo shows the party walking back up the grassy slope from Burford Bridge to the summit of Box Hill on that beautiful morning, with Juniperhill Wood in the centre and Norbury Park on the skyline. Read Bob's report of the outing. (Photo: R Hayward)

Summer & Autumn 2006 - The South Downs Way. Over several long Saturdays starting in July 2006 a party of Epsom & Ewell ramblers and friends walked from Eastbourne and the Seven Sisters (see photo) as far as Cocking, near Midhurst in West Sussex. (Photo: C Collins)

Spring 2007 - The group completed the final stages of the South Downs Way, from Cocking to Winchester, rounding off the expedition with tea and cakes in the Winchester Cathedral Tea Room. Read Carol's report of the expedition. (Photo: C Collins)

Offa's Dyke, June 2006 and June 2007. Here are some Epsom & Ewell Group members joined by a few members from Kingston and Mole Valley Groups on the Offa's Dyke path, with the Pontcysyllte aqueduct in the background. (Photo: A P Farley)

A peaceful view of the water lilies and swans on Forked Pond, Ockley Common. This is the lowest of five artificial ponds on a tributary of the River Wey. The others include Hammer Pond and Silkmill Pond - perhaps there is some industrial history here? (Photo: D Newman) More about Ockley and Thursley Commons...

Surrey is a county of woodlands and mixed agriculture. Sheep, cattle and particularly horses are to be found in the fields. Here is some barley - possibly destined for a brewery nearby? There are a few, dotted about. (Photo: K Allerman)

| The footpaths in Surrey are generally in pretty good shape - thanks to Surrey County Council and the RA Footpath Secretaries. This obstruction we encountered recently is a rare sight: a "walk-the-plank" stile with integral barbed wire garotte. Please report obstructions to Susan, our Footpaths Secretary, on 01932 868524. | Trees in the mist - the view from Newlands Corner looking south early one morning in December 2005. (Photo: D Newman) |

Late Autumn colour - beech trees near Vale End, Albury in December 2005. The path slopes gently up from Waterloo Pond through Colyers Hanger, before turning to the north and climbing steeply up to the car park east of St Martha's Church. (Photo: D Newman)

| Silent Pool is one of a pair of artificial ponds which were created many centuries ago by damming up the stream which issues from a spring at the foot of the North Downs. This photograph doesn't really do justice to the eerie beauty of the place. The water is very clear with a slight blue tinge and the pools are strangely still and, well, silent... | The Hindhead Tunnel project will move the heavy A3 traffic away from the Devil's Punchbowl and surrounding countryside. The construction work started in early 2007, and this picture (taken on a grey day in April 2007) shows the site of the South entrance looking along the line of the approach road towards the future tunnel entrance, after tree-clearance but before excavation began.
