About the Ramblers Association The Ramblers Association (RA) exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone, the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring; and to promote respect for the life of the countryside. The association encourages walking; protects rights of way; defends the beauty of the countryside; and has campaigned for many years for freedom to roam over uncultivated, open country. The association is a democratic, voluntary organisation, registered as a charity in the UK. (Charity Registration No. 1093577) The Epsom & Ewell Group is the local Group of the RA based in Epsom and Ewell, Surrey, England. We organise a weekend ramble and a midweek ramble most weeks of the year, usually in Surrey countryside. The rambles range from 4 or 5 miles to 9 or 10 miles on a variety of terrain. Occasionally we go further afield, and there is a sub-group who walk on Wednesdays, often much further afield. We also have a couple of social events during the year, and one or two walking holidays as a Group. Prospective members are welcome to take part in a ramble or two before deciding whether or not to join. Details of planned walks are on the Walks page of this website. Before attending an Epsom & Ewell Group walk please read the "Walking Notes" page. For further information please contact one of the following: Group Secretary - David - phone 020 8949 3471 or email david.mayumi@virgin.net Walks Secretary - Leslie - phone 01372 720816 or email leslieaudrey@clara.co.uk | About our Walks The leaders will always make every effort to lead the walk as planned, but on rare occasions bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances may force cancellation at short notice - we apologise if this happens. PLEASE ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME FOR YOUR JOURNEY AND ENDEAVOUR TO ARRIVE TEN MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE WALK All mileages are approximate. Be prepared for rough or muddy ground and rain, wear stout footwear and always carry rainwear. Carry food and drink; food cannot be guaranteed at a stop for lunch at a pub. Please do not consume your own food and drink in a pub. It also helps our relationship with pub landlords if you would remove muddy boots or cover them with plastic bags on entry. On roads with no foot-ways, keep to the right. Walk in single file on paths through ploughed land or crops, including grass for mowing. Dogs must be kept on a lead through crops and fields with animals or poultry and must be under proper control throughout the walk and not left to run amongst other walkers. You can help the Leader by staying between the Leader and the back-marker. You should inform the Leader if you wish to stop or leave before the end of the walk. |
All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise. |
